"The Life That Once Was Me" Review

Mystic Levello has a penchant for writing songs that are not only beautifully orchestrated, but also incredibly spontaneous and thought-provoking. His most recent single, “The Life That Once Was Me”, has a very strong personal meaning that adds to the realness of the song.

Mystic Levello is a truly astonishing songwriter when it comes to combining different sounds and genres, while still making music that is deep and thought-provoking. “The Life That Once Was Me” is a perfect example of that. The song, which unfolds over the span of under 3 minutes, begins with the soothing notes of a piano. Soon after, a lush ambiance pad chimes in along with Mystic Levello’s warm and beautiful vocals. His singing on this track is as emotional as ever. The verses have an almost whisper-like quality to them, while he progressively picks up the presence and pace as the song moves forward. Overall, this is a touching ballad that feels like one of those important songs in terms of conveying true and genuine emotions with the audience.

“The Life That Once Was Me” happens to be one of the most emotionally driven songs in Mystic Levello’s discography. The artist showcased his ability to create rich textures and immersive soundscapes even when dealing with a relatively minimalistic arrangement. “The Life That Once Was Me” should most definitely be right up your alley if you are a fan of artists as diverse as Coldplay, Elton John, Chris Isaak or The Fray, only to name a few.

"Someone Who Can Change" Review

Mystic Levello is back with a fantastic new studio work: Someone Who Can Change (“Try To Be A Someone Who Can Change")

Mystic Levello has always made a huge impression with listeners due to his ability to combine honest and spiritually deep music with tuneful sounds and wonderful production aesthetics. There is much more than entertainment to Mystic Levello’s music. His songs are filled with meaning and they share a positive message with the audience, combining catchy melodies with meaningful lyrics, while also exploring a wide variety of influences, including adult contemporary, folk, pop, acoustic ballads, & even hints of soul music.

His most recent studio release is a beautiful track titled Someone Who Can Change (also known as "Try To Be A Someone Who Can Change). This song has a personal and lush sound, with lyrics that explore deep and insightful topics related to personal growth and transformation through life. It’s so easy to get stuck in our usual routines, and even if we know that we would be better off by changing and letting go of bad habits, it is not always easy to do so. This song is a warm encouragement to try and become a type of person who can indeed embrace change. It might seem easy to do so, but it takes a lot of courage to change when you’re set in your ways. “And you can tell me how it use to be, what good is that, if that’s now history, so try to be a someone who can change”

This song has a positive aura, and it is very inspiring, going for a one-of-a-kind tone, as it particularly speaks about those people who are always willing to believe in every word they’re told without digging deeper and trying to understand the true facts: “Believing every word they’re told as if they’re really facts without the evidence or signs to prove, never really knowing there’s a source beyond the shadows spinning stories, just to hide what’s true” The song kicks off with a soothing and immersive piano intro, and it quickly morphs into a smooth verse. The percussive arrangement is very soft, yet assertive in the way it seamlessly gives the song a groove and a rhythm. Mystic Levello’s vocals are really soothing and soft-spoken in the verses, as he explores the lower registers in his vocals. However, he goes for a higher register during the choruses, while also layering his vocals in a very beautiful way. His singing actually makes me think of legendary artists such as David Bowie and Elton John, while also being incredibly personal and one-of-a-kind. This song comes from the heart, and every note is emotional and perfectly placed within the mix.

Ultimately, this song comes as yet another remarkable addition to Mystic Levello’s discography, as well as a great display of the artist’s songwriting skills. The song also affirms Mystic Levello as an artist who is incredibly creative and unique, avoiding to get stuck in the usual norms of the genre, while also straddling the line between styles in order to come up a more intuitive and one-of-a-kind feel. If you take a deeper dive into the artist’s discography on streaming platforms, you’ll find that he actually has so much great material out there, and with every song, he explores a topic, providing a smooth and soothing soundtrack for his listeners. In the tradition of the best songwriters out there, Mystic Levello makes music that defies cliches and expectations, going for an unparalleled sound.

"Here Comes The Real You" Review

Mystic Levello’s New Look At The Real You ... In 2020 Mystic Levello embarked on a musical journey producing a series of introspective, insightful and spiritual covers and originals. With a fluid and timeless sound, his songs range from the sweeping and cinematic to the intimate acoustic. The common theme that runs through his repertoire is an inquisitive nature that seeks to understand the human condition and humanity’s place in the universe.

The song “Here comes the Real You” identifies that moment when a person’s true nature is revealed and all pretense fades away. This recent mix is a new, reimagined take on the song. The original version was a big spacious production with swirling synths and a dramatic U2-style drum and guitar build. “Here comes the Real You (Redux)” strips the song down to its barest essentials. In the past Mystic Levello has shown a penchant for 70’s era songwriters, as on his cover “Yesterday, When I was Young.” Here he returns to that vibe with a mellow, understated production that brings to mind the sound of great Pop/Folk singers of that era like Harry Nilsson and Jim Croce. “Here Comes the Real You (Redux)” is available on all streaming platforms. You can also hear the song on our Deep Indie Songwriters playlist.

"Someone Who Can Change" Review

Mystic Levello Perfectly Captures The Age Of Disinformation With “Someone Who Can Change”

Recently stumbling upon the works of a relatively unknown recording artist who seems to be flying way under the radar, I was moved to write about one of the most significant songs I’ve heard in a long time, a real gem, named “Someone Who Can Change.”

This curiously prophetic composition sparks intrigue right from start with “You can shout about morality… I only care about humanity…” soon unfolding into a deep, insightful ballad perfectly embodying the zeitgeist of our times, one that seems eternally trapped in an era of disinformation. While revealing the possible culprits of the underlying problem “Everyone it seems is only looking for the words of what they want to hear and say is true, echoing another voice of someone who is paid to tell them how to feel and think, and what to do… Believing every word they’re told as if they’re really facts without the evidence or signs to prove, never really knowing…” the writer seems to simultaneously ask the listener to consider a change of heart when it comes to receiving and processing all that information, and to question who the source may be of what they’re seeing and hearing. Rolling into the next verse comes the foretelling phrase “If we could face our own reality, before we all become mortalities…”  obviously referring to the fact of how by “not looking” at the truth of what’s going on in the world around us, we could all end up heading down that dangerous and perilous path towards our own extinction.

With its enduring melody, profound lyrics and subtly unassuming vocals, we’re taken to a place where critical thinking matters, and living inside your own fantasy, blinds you into a form of insanity. This is emphasized by the poetically amusing verse “you can live inside a fantasy and never see your own insanity.” Other notable lines include “you can tell me how it used to be, what good is that if that’s now history…” referring to those who believe the past was much better, and who continually express the sentiment “why can’t we just go back to the old days and return to the way it was…”

As the song exhales its last hopes, we’re led into the future, where someday we realize that we’ve grown into a different person, one who now reflects on the past in a positive way and knows we are much better for it, as so poignantly articulated in the closing verse “maybe later we can look behind, and see our versions of another time, to find ourselves as someone who has changed.”

There is an undeniable depth to this music, rarely found in today’s songs. Between an exquisite arrangement, meaningful words and a sincere voice to deliver the message, the song works on so many levels, almost sounding as a sole anthem for the age of disinformation, leading us to the final punchline that lends one possible answer… “try to be a someone, who can change.”

You won’t be wasting your time listening to this thoughtfully composed tune that is sure to be around for a long time… or at least as long as civilization exists.

“Someone Who Can Change” also titled as“ (try to be a) Someone Who Can Change” can be found on most of the popular music platforms and streaming services under the artist “Mystic Levello” along with a few other hidden treasures in this artist’s repertoire.

"I Had A Dream About You" Review

Mystic Levello is back on the scene with a brand new single: I Had A Dream About You....  Mystic Levello is an artist and songwriter who managed to set his sights to a higher goal: making music that could transcend barriers and genre definitions, in order to achieve some deeper soundscapes with a soothing and natural atmosphere. The song itself is a nice and charming acoustic affair, which sets the bar higher in terms of lyrics. Mystic Levello’s voice is the kind that speaks straight to the heart, and when he sings, you get a clear sense that he means every word he utters.

Ultimately, I Had A Dream About You stands out as a fitting introduction to Mystic Levello’s work, because it combines his love for great melodies with a beautiful lyrical narrative. While the artist is often focused on exploring new age sounds, this track has a bit more of a folk-inspired vibe to it, with a simpler arrangement which is largely based on some beautiful acoustic guitar tones, which are absolutely fantastic and one-of-a-kind. On this song, the production is really fitting with the overall mood of the track, which makes for a listening experience that is honest and personal. Mystic Levelllo’s music is so easy to relate to, and I Had A Dream About You is definitely no exception. Fans of artists such as Bob Dylan, Donovan and John Denver are certainly going to appreciate Mystic Levello’s nuanced sound and distinctive sonic vision. I Had A Dream About You is a mesmerizing song that feels incredibly dynamic and distinctive, giving way to the artist’s imagination, and telling a beautiful story, not only through lyrics, but also through many beautiful sonic textures.

"Long Before You" Review

Artist Mystic Levello continues his admirable artistic experimentation with the dazzling new single, ‘Long Before You’. Merging uplifting folk chords with a stylish rhythm and dreamy vocals, there is a true sense of unification between the elements. Levello is a skilled musician, not just in his unique voice, but in his ability to bring layers of inspiration and genre to a single, streamlined sound. This makes ‘Long Before You’ an ethereal wave of an experience to listen to.

Intimacy is a feeling that is forefronted in ‘Long Before You’. Mystic Levello sings with a conversational tone, full of control and careful enunciation, as he reflects on the sheer preciousness of our Earth. In a time where to pause and reflect is deemed unproductive, Mystic Levello gives us that well-needed moment to stop and look around at what nature has given us - and what we are losing due to our actions.

The lyricism is poignant and anecdotal, full of historical and natural imagery: “Long before you long before Adam met Eve / she was around, planting the world with her seeds / she gave us the land, the beaches, the sandy seas / giving us life, a place in the sun to breathe.” From Mystic Levello’s view on the world, it is a work of art. It is the result of craft and thought, from another person whose gardening has given us the ultimate blossom. Although it captures a time long before us, we feel personally connected through our humanity and shared admiration for what the world provides.

The balance between religious retellings and mystical actions produces a beautiful vision of nature being more than us. ‘Long Before You’, simply, is a spiritual experience as much as a song to sing along to.

However, aside from the undeniable beauty that Levello’s lyricism has conjured up, there is a larger purpose to ‘Long Before You’. The song is a warning of loss which reaches its climax with the melancholy shift in the chorus. As we are addressed with collective responsibility, an undercurrent of low-tone synths occupy the instrumentation. The light-hearted strum of the guitar mutes to meandering notes as Mystic Levello sings: “She knows that we’re in danger / lost / out of touch / she only talks to angels / she only looks with love.” Levello has a well-balanced skill in his lyricism, crafting serious subject matter with a small spark of hope. Whilst we are evidently in trouble, Levello’s imagery of Eve is still a figure of benevolence and reassurance. It is the perfect way to both highlight the extent to which our world needs us to help, and that we can do so.

Mystic Levello further introduces spoken-word elements, which is extremely effective in helping the direct mode of address the song aims to achieve. Such aspects such as spoken-word, predominantly acoustic instruments and percussions, define ‘Long Before You’ as a quintessential New Age song. The arrangement of the track encourages space for the listener to think and reflect, whilst establishing a trance-like rhythm to focus with.

On the other hand, the sheer unfiltered honesty of Mystic Levello’s brilliant lyrics means that ‘Long Before You’ dabbles in the prospect of being a protest song. With the current age of climate emergency and rapid environmental deterioration, there is an undeniable sense of urgency to be proactive in the here and now - something which Levello perfect portrays in this track. While we may enjoy the aesthetic and genre elements of the song (in all their polished production), ‘Long Before You’ cuts deeper than most current releases. Mystic Levello demonstrates his distinctive artistry is as much an environmental cause as it is an art form, and does so with a determination audible to all.

"It's Not That God (I'm Singing About)" Review

Mystic Levello has just released his latest track “It’s Not That God (I’m Singing About)”, a deeply moving, introspective song that explores the ideas of faith and God in a beautifully produced musical vessel. Based in Santa Monica, California, Mystic Levello blends spiritual ideas with tranquil instrumentation to create an encompassing song that will leave you feeling connected to everything.

The song begins with a peaceful, haunting string melody that creates the tone for the otherworldly tune. Light percussion drives the song with confident bass lines and guitar strums that fade into the enveloping orchestration like waves on a beach. Just as you relax into the calm scene that has been set, the lead singer’s voice enters with a whisper-like tone and a textured, relaxed vocal fry as he sings “God’s everywhere, if God’s anywhere”. As he sings the drawn-out phrase, rhythmic harmonies appear underneath giving a preview of what’s to come with an intriguing and mysterious undertow.

As the song continues, the meaning of the lyrics come to light as they state, “It’s not that God I’m singing about, it’s the one that lives inside of you”. Delivered with a conversational, wholehearted tone, the lyrics continue “a travelling song within your heart that sings the way and tells you what is true.” These beautiful lyrics resonate deeply like receiving wisdom from a dearly trusted friend and, when combined with the serene orchestration, lull you into a meditative state as you feel them echo through your entire being. The lyrics continue to speak on finding your truth, if you choose to find it.

There is an unmistakable feeling of calm and positivity that this song exudes with each thoughtful lyric and each orchestral swell. The narrative continues to unfold acknowledging the feeling of not knowing if you are following the right path or doing the right thing, but continuing to “keep the faith and shine the light”, speaking of confidently going with your heart and spreading love to others. The lyrics continue to describe that, even through doubt, you can find peace and stillness with those you love and have trust that what you feel is right, is right. The addition of pedal steel late in the song adds an additional flair to the instrumentation while also introducing a grounding presence to the otherwise light and airy accompaniment. The song fades in a fitting, ethereal fashion as swirling harmonies repeat the poignant messages as they drift away.

With brilliantly supportive instrumentation and straight forward, optimistic lyrics that resonate in your very soul, “It’s Not That God (I’m Singing About” is the kind of song that will stick with you long after the last note fades. Mystic Levello captures a deeply moving feeling of peace and understanding in this song while acknowledging the feelings of the doubt we all face with a poignant and gentle reminder to keep the faith.

"Confused" Review

Mystic Levello drags you to an unknown realm of the melodic vastness with his latest single ‘Confused’. The name of artist, Mystic Levello, may be primarily under the radar due to his experimental, atmospheric, and spiritual compositions, but there is certainly more to the artist than what meets the eye. The singer endorses a vocal melody that begs for attention and the whole affair is heartwarmingly beautiful. The voice grabs attention and loops it with its melodicity that punches right in the gut. The transition from airy, sweet, and melodic voice to something hypnotic is smooth, and the singer effectively provides the right balance with his charming lyricism.

Recently the singer has allowed his creativity to shine out with the music video ‘Confused’ that sounds like a recharge for the soul. Unsurprisingly, the singer has injected every kind of dreamy musical element to highlight his enigmatic vocal quality, and the outcome is highly impressive. The singer’s husky yet powerful vocal quality interludes softly with the striking instrumental sound and build up the aesthetics carefully. The melancholic synths, sparse electronic instrumentals, and subtle strings composed of pure magnitude pull in the listener’s attention. His ambition to offer a good and refreshing time to the audience is genuine and the singer stands out tall with his creative light.

Mystic Levello is a profoundly talented artist who believes in communicating thoughtful and deep messages often spiritual in nature with universal themes and the latest single ‘Confused’ only works as a catalyst to fuel his genuine intentions. The lyrics penetrate the listener’s heart with impact and deserve to be heard more than just once to soak in the entire essence. The singer possesses the ability to balance the thread of harmonious singing and expressing explicitly in his compositions that is indeed a commendable and rare trait to encounter in today’s time.

"Be With You" Review

Mystic Levello is a somewhat mysterious new presence in the music world. There's not much known of this artist at this time. except that his debut track was in 2020... “This Old Guitar,” seemingly, a beautiful ode to the role music has played in the artist’s life. Since then, this unique artist has taken to the new year with a string of new releases.

In just a month he has dropped four new songs; “God’s Everywhere (If God’s Anywhere)”, “Going Through (Same Old Brand New Episode),” “Here Comes the Real You (Radio Edit),” “Long Before You (Look with Love)” and the single “Be With You.” In each case he examines a different aspect of the human condition with a thoughtful and meditative vibe set to mellow Adult Contemporary Pop music.

“Be With You” opens on a ethereal mix of ambient and percussive synths. As the song’s mellow but driving rhythm slowly builds, the singer delivers a personal and heartfelt love letter to the object of his affection. Vocally, Mystic Levello alternates between a spoken word delivery and a softly sung tenor. The sweeping musical arrangement, romantic lyrics and the singer’s intimate vocal style brings to mind the cinematic and emotional music of artists like Neil Diamond, Harry Nilsson or some of the more melodic work of Leonard Cohen. You can follow the links here, to connect with Mystic Levello and get in the loop on all of the current and future projects from this talented singer/songwriter.

"Yesterday When I Was Young" Review

Enigmatic musical philosopher, Mystic Levello
takes his turn at Roy Clark's melancholy Pop classic...

Mystic Levello’s Thoughtful New Take On A Classic... We first heard from Mystic Levello last month. That is when the enigmatic artist introduced us to his uniquely philosophical sound. With songs like “God’s Everywhere” and “Be With You” he creates a soundscape in which he and the listener can pause for a moment and reflect.

To date, most of Mystic Levello’s songs have been his own original compositions. However, for his latest track the artist is dipping into the classics for inspiration. “Yesterday When I Was Young,” is the new single from Mystic Levello, released worldwide to all major streaming services this past month.

The song, made famous in 1969 as a crossover Pop hit by Country legend Roy Clark, was written by the English/French songwriting team of Herbert Kretzmer and Charles Aznavour. Lyrically, the tune is a melancholy meditation on wasted youth and the unforgiving passage of time. Clark’s version matched the mood musically with acoustic guitar/orchestral arrangement.

Mystic Levello’s version of “Yesterday When I Was Young” remains true in spirit to the original but takes the production in a new direction. The singer delivers a reverent and appropriately thoughtful take on the somber and introspective tune. However, musically he has changed things up a bit. He has replaced the acoustic guitar and strings of the original with his signature electric piano and synths. The sound creates a mellow space in which the lyrics can breathe and we as listeners can take the time to reflect upon them.

He has developed a heartfelt sound, at times reminiscent of some of the most timeless new age music, at times reminiscent of fusion and folk.

His most recent release is a perfect example of the artist’s quest for ongoing creativity and his thirst for expanding his musical horizon. The song is titled “Long Before You (Look With Love).” The song has a beautiful and playful acoustic guitar pattern, which perfectly matches the artist’s understated and imitate vocal style. In addition to that, I really love the percussion backdrop, featuring some African-style bongo tones in 16th notes, keeping up a nice pace and adding an Afro-beat twist to the rest of the drum kit, consisting of a basic kick, a smooth hi-hat sound and a snare often performed with a softer sound. The choruses change slightly, with the ride cymbal replacing the hi-hat in order to give the tune a more open vibe to it. The vocal sound has a very poetic and almost conversational feel to it, because Mystic Levello is an amazing storyteller, he his able to evoke strong feelings with his sound and he loves to create beautiful lyrics that are so iconic. This is a dreamy and romantic song, which makes me think of artists as diverse as Don McLean, Jack Johnson, as well as Bob Dylan, Dead Rituals, and Cat Stevens, only to mention but a few.  The first thing that will immediately jump at you is the soothing and emotionally evocative soundscape delivered by this very gifted artist.

Mystic Levello is amazing at building ambiance with his songs, layering multiple sounds, without ever “muddying up” the tone of his releases. This is definitely the case with “Long Before You (Look With Love), which appears so incredibly dynamic and balanced.

Mystic Levello Finds An Answer
On His New Single “Confused”

Mystic Levello first appeared on The Static Dive just two months ago with the release of his single “Be With You.” With that track we were introduced to a new and enigmatic presence in the Pop music world. The prolific writer and performer has already dropped six more singles in 2021. Each song further defines his mellow and philosophical vibe and classic Adult Contemporary style.

Through musical meditations on God, personal growth and existential philosophy Mystic Levello’s songs explore love in both the personal and universal sense. From the pantheism of “God’s Everywhere (If God’s Anywhere)” to the liberating romantic love of “Be With You,” the singer contemplates what it means to be alive. Each of these poetic ponderings is set to lush, 70’s Pop inspired ambient arrangements.

“Confused” is the latest single from Mystic Levello. In many ways this new release combines the artist’s previous observations into a single unified theory. Once again, he views the span of a lifetime and its meaning. However, rather than question that purpose, on “Confused” he seems to have figured it out. Despite the confusion of human existence, we are really all working toward a single destination.

As Mystic Levello sings, “Who are they fooling? Diluting our lives with lies, leading to you,” we are left only to wonder, who is “you?” Maybe it is God, maybe it is a personal love interest or maybe it is ‘Love’ itself that we are seeking. Maybe there is no meaningful differentiation between them at all. Ultimately the message is that our purpose is obvious if we can see past our innate confusion. The song is set to the artist’s signature sound of ambient synths and a chill electric piano playing a classic, melodic Pop composition.

"Yesterday When I Was Young" Review

A brand new studio single with a passionate sound and a one-of-a-kind creative approach, which sets the bar higher in terms of creativity and storytelling. Mystic Levello is an artist and songwriter who loves to combine lush soundscapes with personal lyrics. His most recent single is a cover of Yesterday When I Was Young, as made famous by Charles Aznavour. The artist managed to add a personal touch to this tune, by implementing some mesmerizing melodic and ambient textures in his dream-like arrangement. This cover is very contemplative and personal, and it’s a true joy to listen to.

The song is filled with atmospheric tones, and it sounds very cinematic. However, it also has a personal edge that really connects with the audience, especially due to the existential nature of the lyrics, which reflect on life, looking back of what we got, what we’ve lost, and what’s there left for us. Anybody could relate to the feeling of growing older and looking back on the old days, and this song has an immersive texture that enhances the nostalgia of the lyrics.

The sound of this production is very wide ranging, and it offers an in-depth, tone with massive lows and silky smooth high-end, particularly due to the beautiful synthesizer parts. The pads are very big, and it makes me think of some of the best New Age music over the years.

The song is one of the most personal and intimate moments in Mystic Levello’s career, and it’s a spontaneous snapshot of his ability to be very honest and upfront about his musical work. In terms of production, the sound of Yesterday When I Was Young feels quite polished, but also warm and clear. The mixing bringing the gaps between modern-day recordings and old school production values, and combining the best of both worlds in a very seamless and direct way.
